The Role of the Judge in Successful Reentry (Zoom Program)
Monday, September 19, 2022 | 4:00pm - 6:00pm EDT
*This is a Zoom Webinar program*
This virtual program will begin with a video featuring the voices of individuals from diverse racial and gender backgrounds who all have lived through the experience of incarceration and reentry; they will describe some of the substantial challenges they faced and also some of the things that helped them navigate the process.
Afterwards, members of a panel of experts will discuss the video and offer their own insights into how judges can contribute to making the process more successful – even before the time of sentencing. Justice Serge Georges, Jr., of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, will introduce the program and Judge Lisa Ann Grant, of the Dorchester Division of the Boston Municipal Court, will moderate. The panel will include Vincent Lorenti, Executive Director, Office of Community Corrections in the Department of Probation; Kristin Dame, Director of Private Social Work Services for the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS); Myriam Feliz, Assistant District Attorney and Supervisor, Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office; Rachelle Steinberg, Assistant Superintendent, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department; and Shayla Mombeleur, Trial Attorney, CPCS, and Chair, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
