Judicial Decision-Making and Racial Health Inequities (In-Person Program)

Wednesday, February 12, 2025 | 12:00pm - 4:30pm EST

Free

Co-sponsored with Salus Populi, Northeastern University’s Center for Health Policy and Law,
the Institute for Health Equity and Social Justice Research,
and the Justice Harry J. Elam Judicial Conference

*This is an in-person program*

Structural racism adversely impacts the health of individuals who come before the courts, as well as their communities. In this interactive, seminar-style program, judges will learn how structural racism and other social factors affect the health of litigants and their communities, as well as the role that courts play in perpetuating health inequities. Featuring a hands-on approach, the program will give judges the opportunity to work together on hypothetical cases and gain tools they can use to mitigate the justice system’s adverse impact on health.

The program will feature presentations by Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, Associate Professor Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Executive Director of the Boston Public Health Commission, who will speak on the Commission’s efforts to address health equity, Dr. Danielle Crookes, Assistant Professor and Health Equity Faculty Scholar in the Institute for Health Equity and Social Justice Research at Northeastern University who studies the relationship between structural racism and health.

This all new Salus Populi judicial education program is co-sponsored by Northeastern University’s Center for Health Policy and Law, the Institute for Health Equity and Social Justice Research, and the Justice Harry J. Elam Judicial Conference.

Lunch will be provided. Seats are limited, and registration is required. Sign up today to reserve your spot! Questions? Please feel free to contact us at: programs@flaschner.org.
