This afternoon webinar for Massachusetts judges will look at race and a variety of criminal law topics, including:

  • Motions to Suppress – Automobile stops and exit orders, particularly in light of the recent Supreme Judicial Court decision in Commonwealth v. Long; Street encounters; Stop and Frisk
  • Profile Evidence
  • Selective Enforcement
  • Issues of race and bias that arise in the conduct of jury trials including allegations of racism during jury deliberations and impermissible use of race during peremptory challenges
  • The District Court Jury Instructions

The discussion will concentrate on the impact of implicit racial bias in the courtroom on discretionary determinations in judicial decision-making.
