This seminar is for trial judges who confront motions to suppress in criminal cases, including District Court, Boston Municipal Court, Juvenile Court and Superior Court. We will be addressing some of the most important substantive law topics including: stop and frisk; search and seizure; probable cause based on informant evidence; Miranda and voluntariness of defendant’s statements; and motions to suppress based on impermissibly suggestive identifications.
We will also be discussing practical management issues for the judge regarding scheduling, hearing procedure, and the requirements for a proper motion and supporting affidavit. With each topic, there will be time allocated for questions from the judges in the audience.
