Designed for both new and experienced judges seeking to enhance the clarity, precision, and authority of their written decisions, this afternoon program will emphasize practical techniques for organizing opinions, making clear factual findings and well-supported conclusions, and enhancing the likelihood of affirmance on appeal.
Participants will explore common pitfalls in judicial writing and consider strategies to improve efficiency, consistency, and tone. Judges will leave with guidance on effective judicial writing they can apply whether refining lengthy opinions or drafting margin orders. The program will feature both general panel discussions and smaller discussion sessions that will focus on issues specific to individual Trial Court departments.
