Appellate Bench-Bar Conference

Held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at the John Adams Courthouse, the Appellate Bench-Bar Conference explored themes and topics derived from a Flaschner Judicial Institute survey sent to over 4,500 attorneys who have practiced in either of the Commonwealth’s two appellate courts since 2018.

The conference began at 2:00 PM in the SJC’s main courtroom with four keynote speakers, including:

• Chief Justice Kimberly S. Budd, Supreme Judicial Court
• Chief Justice Mark V. Green, Appeals Court
• Rebecca Kiley, Attorney-in-Charge, Public Defender Division Appeals Unit, Committee for Public Counsel Services
• Mark C. Fleming, Co-Chair, Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation Practice, Wilmer Hale

Attendees then convened into smaller discussion groups to have constructive and productive conversations about appellate court practice. The conference concluded at 5:00 pm and was followed by a reception.
