The Flaschner Judicial Institute is pleased to announce that Hon. Mary-Lou Rup (ret.) is this year’s recipient of the Hon. Edward M. Ginsburg Award for Distinguished Public Service During Judicial Retirement.
Since retiring from the Massachusetts Superior Court in 2020, Judge Rup has continued an exceptional record of public service through legal education, mentorship, judicial system support, and community leadership.
As President of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Training and Development (ITD), Judge Rup helps international legal professionals, educators, and students develop a deeper understanding of the justice system through education and inter-culture exchange. She has also been a dedicated mentor and coach through the Massachusetts Bar Association’s High School Mock Trial Program. Under her leadership as a coach for Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School, the team reached the state finals in 2022 and 2023 and won the Massachusetts championship in 2024.
Judge Rup further served on the Judicial Nominating Committee and, since 2025, as chair of the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Committee for the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, Western Division. She also contributes to her community as a board member and Clerk of the Northampton Jazz Festival.
Judge Rup’s continued commitment to the law, education, civic engagement, and community service makes her an exemplary recipient of the Ginsburg Award. The Flaschner Judicial Institute is especially delighted to honor Judge Rup, a valued member of our community, for her remarkable contributions and enduring commitment to public service.
