Another Great Day at Evidence YBTJ

On Friday, June 26, more than 70 judges from across the Commonwealth gathered for another successful “Evidence: You Be the Judge,” a full-day educational program focused on current and emerging evidentiary issues in both criminal and civil cases.

The program featured practical sessions on common evidence issues, the new Parol Evidence Rule section of the Massachusetts Guide to Evidence, expert witness qualifications, jury selection and Soares considerations, and a review of notable evidence decisions from the past year. A highlight of the afternoon was “The Evidentiary and Jury Issues in Commonwealth v. Karen Read.”

The distinguished faculty included Supreme Judicial Court Associate Justice Serge Georges, Jr.; retired Supreme Judicial Court Associate Justice David A. Lowy, now General Counsel at the University of Massachusetts; Appeals Court Associate Justice Gregory I. Massing, Chair of the SJC Advisory Committee on Massachusetts Evidence Law; Superior Court Associate Justice Beverly J. Cannone; Quincy District Court First Justice Mark S. Coven; and Elizabeth N. Mulvey, Esq., Partner at Libby Hoopes Brooks & Mulvey, P.C.

Thank you to our outstanding faculty and to all of the judges who participated in making another Evidence YBTJ program a tremendous success.
