FJI President Authors Article on Protections Against Cruel or Unusual Punishment for Juveniles and Young Adults

In his most recent law review article, Hon. Scott L. Kafker, Associate Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court, examines the evolving intersection of science and law. Co-authored with Christine W. Blanchette, Esq. (Litigation Associate, Goodwin Procter) and forthcoming in the Rutgers Law Review (Summer 2025), the piece explores state constitutional protections against cruel or unusual punishment as applied to juveniles and emerging adults.

Justice Kafker previously taught state constitutional law at Boston College Law School from 2009 to 2015. He authored a concurrence in the Supreme Judicial Court’s decision in Commonwealth v. Mattis.
