Retired Superior Court Judge John Cratsley to Receive First Ginsburg Award

Hon. John C. Cratsley (ret.) will receive the first Hon. Edward M. Ginsburg Award for Distinguished Public Service During Judicial Retirement on September 23. Established in 2024, this special award recognizes a retired judge who served honorably on the bench and then in retirement made a significant contribution as a volunteer to the administration of justice.

Judge Ginsburg, one of Flaschner’s original Trustees, will always be remembered for the network of volunteer lawyers and retired judges he created. Known as Senior Partners for Justice, Judge Ginsburg’s volunteers (which now number more than 1,000 from all legal backgrounds), use their talents and expertise to serve those who would otherwise go unrepresented in court. This dedicated team includes retired and practicing attorneys, seasoned family law practitioners, specialists from outside family law, as well as retired judges.

Hon. Peter W. Agnes, Jr. (ret.), FJI Chief Executive Officer, recently said, “What is remarkable about the judges of Massachusetts is that so many of them carry an honorable purpose and spirit of unselfish and high-minded service into their retirement years.”
